BARD Download Reading Materials

The Braille and Audio Reading Download (BARD) is a web-based service that provides access to braille and talking books, magazines, and music scores. You can access BARD 24 hours a day 7 days a week from your computer or smart device. There is no waiting for books to come in the mail and no due dates to return books. BARD is available to registered Talking Book Library users. BARD is available to individual library users and institutional account holders.

Apply for Bard

Fill out the form with your name and address as they appear in your Talking Book Library account. If you are not sure which name or address we have on file for you, contact the Library and we can assist you. Near the bottom of the form is Type of Player. This has been automatically selected and should say “NLS Digital Talking Book Player/BARD mobile app.” Do not change this. After your BARD account is set up, you can then add a personal device to your account.

The email address you enter on the form will be your username when logging into BARD. When your application is approved, you will get an email from BARD that will contain a temporary password that you will use to sign into BARD for the first time.

The first time you sign into BARD you must sign into the website. You cannot finish setting up the BARD account on the app, it must be done on the website.

Sign in with your email and temporary password

Once you log in you will be told you need to update your password. Enter a password twice that you would like to be your permanent password and click submit to confirm the change.

You can now access BARD from either the website or the app!
